Band
The musical tradition at Mt. Vernon is long and distinguished. With over a decade of straight "1" ratings at State Large Ensemble, consistent marching band placings, caption awards, and finals appearances, thousands of dollars of scholarships earned for Mt. Vernon High School band graduates furthering their education, and a consistent sense of pride for the Mt. Vernon community, the Mountaineer Bands program is among the finest music programs in the state of Missouri.
The students of the Mountaineer Bands program perform at all home football games, multiple marching band festivals, host the annual "Mountaineer Classic Marching Festival", run a booth and march in the parade at Apple Butter Makin' Days, perform at home basketball games, put on two grades 6-12 concerts, participate in individual auditions and performances such as All-District Band, All-State Band, and District/State Solo and Ensemble, and participate in multiple community events. Mountaineer Bands students enjoy a challenging and rewarding experience as a member of the Mountaineer Bands program while gaining lifelong friends and skills they will take with them long after they have left the band program.
